SINGAPORE, 3 NOVEMBER 2022 – The inaugural Blue Water EduFest 2022 organised by ONE15 Events Management (“ONE°15”), a subsidiary of SUTL Enterprise Limited (“SUTL”), has kicked off and is set to take place at the ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove Singapore from now till 6 November 2022. Across a two-day educational conference, nightly networking cocktail parties, and an awards ceremony to recognise eco-heroes, Blue Water EduFest aims to create meaningful conversations about marine and coastal conservation while inspiring individuals and corporations to embark on their own sustainability journeys.

Blue Water EduFest is organised with the goal of providing a platform for marine and coastal conservation awareness while raising funds for World Wide Fund for Nature – Singapore (WWF-Singapore). This is done through knowledge sharing among policy makers, nongovernmental organisations, the scientific community, boaters, the media, corporate entities, and individuals with a passion for the same cause. As such, the event is intricately curated through harnessing the expertise and commitment of its sponsors in sustainability. Each of their sustainability efforts resonate with the main objective of bringing awareness of marine and coastal conservation to the local community.

In line with this, the Guest of Honour Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development and Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration, inaugurated the event with a speech reiterating the nation’s commitment to coastal conservation as part of our sustainability endeavours.

“Oceans cover around 70% of the earth’s surface, and contain rich biodiversity, much of which have yet to be discovered. They serve as the “blue lungs” of the earth and are crucial in our efforts to combat climate change. They also provide important ecosystem services and livelihoods for many communities worldwide. This is why ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove’s initiative to organise the Blue Water EduFest is so important to raise awareness on marine conservation, and serve as a platform for partners to share ideas and find ways to work together to protect our oceans for our current and future generations.” – Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development and Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration.

Conservation Starts with Knowledge

Education and knowledge are the crux to creating meaningful conversation on how each stakeholder can play their part in protecting our marine environment. One of the main highlights of the event is the inaugural two-day educational conference, The Ocean Collective Summit (TOCS) which will take place on 3 and 4 November 2022.

The conference is organised by The International SeaKeepers Society in cooperation with the Fabien Cousteau Ocean Learning Centre, founded by Fabien Cousteau, famed for his work as an Aquanaut, Oceanographic Explorer, and Environmental Advocate. It features a panel of iconic speakers across the scientific community, environmental agencies, corporations, and non-governmental organisations with the aim of providing an avenue for discussion and knowledge sharing, in order to make progress with research and projects that could mitigate and/or improve the current state of the oceanic environment whilst further educating the future generations on the importance of protecting and restoring our ocean and its resources.

Recognising Eco-Heroes Across Southeast Asia

The Blue Water Heroes Awards to be held on 4 November 2022 from 7pm to 10pm, will shine the spotlight on 10 nominated individuals from Southeast Asia who have made significant contributions to advancing the protection and conservation of marine life and the marine environment in Southeast Asia and/or implemented innovative solutions to preserve coastlines and the communities they support. Three winners will be announced, with each receiving a cash prize and additional benefits that will enable them to further develop their cause, including access to industry experts as well as collaboration and speaking opportunities with ONE°15 Marina and selected partners.

Involving the Community

Taking community involvement to the next level, the Blue Water EduFest has also organised a Marina Clean Up on the final day of the event, where 100 volunteers will participate in a land and underwater clean up. As part of their eco-efforts, ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove has consistently held annual clean-ups. Having taken a two year-hiatus due to the pandemic, the Marina Clean Up is set to be held on 6 November 2022 as part of the Blue Water EduFest.

“Blue Water EduFest is our call to save our oceans and coastlines. Over the next four days, we will exchange ideas and share best practices and learn from renowned marine advocates who have made the protection of marine biodiversity their life’s work. We will also have discussions and dialogues on how corporations and governments can use their influence and expertise to work with communities and advocacy groups to promote marine sustainability. As individuals, we can only do so much, but collectively, we can make a difference. Through constant education and increasing public awareness, we hope more people will join us in this movement.” — Mr Arthur Tay, Chairman and CEO, SUTL Group
